Wharton In-Semester Internship for Veterans

Alex. Brown Realty (ABR) has organized an internship for Wharton MBA students who are veterans of U.S. Armed Forces. This internship provides students who may not have otherwise had experience with classic investment and business decision-making circumstances an opportunity to participate in these activities and gain exposure to risk mitigation, value creation, and investment thesis execution. Additional details include:

  • Students will be paired with an ABR Acquisitions Officer for the semester.
  • Primary duties will include assisting with underwriting, due diligence, and investment committee presentations for real estate acquisitions.
  • The internship is structured to accommodate the school schedule with the expectation that most work would be completed on Fridays.
  • Students would also be invited to weekly acquisition meetings (Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.), quarterly asset management meetings (typically a Monday), and periodic Investment Committee meetings, where students will be abreast of discussions of real estate trends and strategies.
  • All meetings are available via videoconferencing; it would not be necessary for students to travel to Baltimore in person, although they are welcome to do so.
  • Students will also be asked to participate in ABR’s mentoring program for undergraduate students of color.
  • This is a twelve-week internship for the fall and spring semesters.
  • The fall internship focuses on second-year students; the spring internship focuses on first-year students.
  • No special qualifications; other than being a veteran of U.S. Military Services and a full-time Wharton MBA student.
